It is, for some, a time when things slow down and there is time for travel and friends and outdoor activities. Paradoxically, when we slow down we can be surprised to find big questions percolating up from somewhere deep inside of us. Why am I here? What am I supposed to be doing? Why do I feel so stagnant? How can I find a new direction? Where can I go for help? As if these aren't enough there are other questions. Why is there suffering? How do I understand the violence in the world, and in myself? Why can't people simply live in peace with one another? Why is there such rampant intolerance? Life is full of big questions - personal questions as well as those we ask about the world in which we live. These questions, and more, are deeply spiritual questions. Anytime we start delving into them, we find ourselves unsettled and maybe a bit off balance. Some people tune into "Dr. Phil" or "Oprah" or the "Long Island Medium" to find answers. As entertainment there is nothing wrong with that. But the deep questions of life will only find meaning (and a few answers) in the context of faith. There are some places where questions are not welcome. We learn very quickly where and with whom it is safe to share. The Church should be a place where all these questions (and more), are welcome. If we truly believe that truth is found in knowing and being in relationship with God we need not fear questions. The book of Psalms is full of questions. Jewish Sage, Elie Wiesel has said, "Questions aren't dangerous, answers are." Home Our Church Calendar News Pastor's Corner Chat Contact 326 Bellevue Avenue, Hammonton, NJ 08037 (609) 561-0168
